This program provides an immigration option for business people who wish to start or purchase a business in British Columbia and settle here.

Status Open (the Base Category steam is temporarily paused)

British Columbia is the crossroads of many cultures. Its entrepreneurs benefit from its strategic location on Canada’s west coast, low taxes, competitive operating costs and a multicultural workforce.

The Base Category allows you to obtain a two-year temporary work permit, as well as an open work permit for your spouse and then, once you demonstrate that you have met the program requirements, you and your family will be eligible for permanent resident status in Canada.

Base Category
  • Have a net worth of at least C$600,000, alone or with your spouse
  • Intend to make an eligible investment of at least C$200,000 in the business and acquire an equity interest of at least two thirds.
  • In the past 10 years, have experience in at least one of the following:
    • Minimum of three years of experience as owner-manager
    • Minimum of four years as senior manager
    • Combination of one year as owner-manager plus two years as senior manager
  • Post-secondary OR at least three years as active business owner-manager with a 100% ownership in the business in the five years prior to submitting the application
  • Knowledge of English or French (CLB level 4)
  • Create at least on full-time job for a Canadian permanent resident or citizen
  • Status: temporarily paused.
Regional Pilot Program
  • Have a net worth of at least C$300,000, alone or with your spouse
  • Five years of experience prior to submitting the application:
    • Minimum of three years of experience as owner-manager
    • Minimum of four years as senior manager
    • Combination of one year as owner-manager plus two years as senior manager
  • Post-secondary OR at least three years as active business owner-manager with a 100% ownership in the business in the five years prior to submitting the application
  • Knowledge of English or French (CLB level 4)
  • Intend to make an eligible investment of at least C$100,000 in the new business (and acquire an equity interest of at least 51%) referred by a participating community
  • Have made an exploratory visit to the chosen community to discuss the business plan and obtain the support letter
  • Create at least on full-time job for a Canadian permanent resident or citizen.

Steps to prepare the application:
  1. Analysis of the client’s qualifications
  2. Market study, including search for a community for the Regional Pilot Program
  3. Mandatory exploratory visit of the community and receipt of the letter of support for the Regional Pilot Program
  4. Preparation of the business concept
  5. Preparation and submission of the online application
  6. Receipt of the Invitation to Apply
  7. Preparation of the complete supporting documents and business plan in accordance with program requirement and personal net worth verification report issued by an authorized accounting firm (such as Grant Thornton Canada)
  8. Application submission

 

After the application is submitted:
  1. Interview
  2. Delivery of the work permit
  3. Arrival and creation of business
  4. Satisfy the nomination requirements, including the place of residence and physical presence to ensure active management, etc.
  5. Designation by the province
  6. Work permit extension application
  7. Permanent residency application
